It’s no secret; the reveal of any NHL award finalists always comes with a steaming side of controversy.
There always seems to be someone that fans think is a gross omission, and although lots of people had this year’s Calder winner picked back in December (ahem, Pettersson) some still think there was one huge snub.
Miro Heiskanen, the 19-year-old rookie defenseman from Espoo, Finland, has been making some serious waves with the Dallas Stars in both the regular and postseasons.
In the regular season, Heiskanen posted a very impressive 33 points. Through his eight playoff games so far, he has lead the Stars’ defense in ice time at points, and has netted two goals and an assist, good to tie the team record for postseason goals by a rookie blue liner, all while blocking shots and being a vital part of the team’s success.
So when the Rookie of the Year Finalists were announced, and Heiskanen wasn’t one of them, fans, analysts, and Tyler Seguins alike were all less than pleased.
Yup, there’s some serious salt among Stars fans today.
But Heiskanen himself? Not so salty. Maybe a little spicy, but not at all salty.
When asked about the snub, he responded with the perfect amount of indifference, mixed with some mild sass.
While Binnington is still playing hockey with the Blues, Dahlin and Pettersson, the other two Finalists, have both been eliminated from playoff contention.
We really admire the way Heiskanen plays, and we're also big fans of a little tasteful shade throwing.
